WikiClaw

Privacy Policy

Effective: 1 May 2026. Last updated: 1 May 2026.

WikiClaw is a native macOS application. This policy describes what data the app collects and how it is handled. The short version: nothing leaves your Mac.

1. What WikiClaw collects

Nothing. WikiClaw does not collect, transmit, or store any personal information. There is no account, no login, no analytics, no telemetry, and no crash reporting.

2. Network traffic

WikiClaw makes HTTP(S) requests only to:

  • The MediaWiki site you have explicitly chosen to crawl, in order to fetch pages and metadata.
  • The image and file URLs referenced by that wiki, only when you have enabled the "Download assets" option.

Each outbound request includes the User-Agent string that you configure in Settings → Networking → User agent. You can change or audit this value at any time. WikiClaw does not send any other identifier.

3. Where crawled data lives

All output (pages.jsonl, chunks.jsonl, category maps, asset binaries, manifests) is written to WikiClaw's sandboxed Documents folder on your Mac. The data never leaves your machine. WikiClaw does not back up, sync, upload, or share this data with any third party.

You can locate the folder via Settings → Storage → Reveal output folder, and you can delete it at any time using Finder.

4. Preferences and local state

WikiClaw saves user preferences (base URL, namespaces, rate limit, recently crawled hosts, etc.) using macOS UserDefaults. This information is stored locally on your Mac and is never transmitted anywhere. The "Reset all settings" button in Settings → General wipes these preferences.

5. Third-party services

WikiClaw does not integrate with any third-party analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting service. The only third parties involved in your use of the app are the wiki sites you choose to crawl, and Apple (for App Store distribution and macOS sandboxing) — neither receives data from WikiClaw beyond what is required to render the requested wiki page or run the app.

6. Children's privacy

WikiClaw does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13. Because the app collects nothing at all, this policy applies uniformly to all users.

7. Your rights

Because no personal data is collected or transmitted, there is no remote record to access, correct, or delete. To delete all data WikiClaw has saved on your Mac, drag the app's sandbox folder to the Trash (locate via Settings → Storage → Reveal output folder, then go up one level) and empty the Trash.

8. Changes to this policy

If this policy is updated, the new version will be published at this URL with a revised "Last updated" date. Material changes will additionally be announced in the app's release notes.
